Ian Skelton

on social media

Ian Skelton is a London-based photographer who readily admits that taking pictures for artists and makers is his favourite part of the job.

“It’s such a privilege,” he says, “to be alongside the artist in their studio and to help interpret and translate their work into images. And I get an exclusive private view!”

After a successful career in commercial and magazine still-life photography, Ian found himself increasingly drawn to image-making for U.K. museums and the heritage sector, alongside his work for fine artists.

It’s a diversion that he relishes.

“Artists trust me with their precious work. It’s as important to them as their offspring! I love it when they recognise the essence of their work in the final photograph,” Ian explains. “Then I know I’ve got it right.”

Originally from rural North Yorkshire, Ian takes every chance to get into the great outdoors. He paddles his ancient Canadian canoe in the lakes and rivers of the British countryside, and when his little barky brown dog, Lola, isn’t with him, he takes his binoculars and enjoys a spot of quiet bird-watching.
