Luna & Dani Larosee

Published:

Hi there! My name is Luna and I’m a fashion model. I live in Boston with my mom, Dani, who makes me all kinds of stylish bandanas, bows, collars, and even sweaters, to wear so that I always look my best when we’re out on the town. I am a 4-year-old border collie mix and I was adopted in 2018 from Shultz’s Guest House. I was born in Tennessee and had to make a long car ride up to Massachusetts. The driver said I behaved the best in the car so they gave me my shelter name, “Star.” I lived at the guest house for a few weeks with lots of other puppies before my mom and my dad, Tim, adopted me.

I also have an older, but much smaller, feline sister named Millie. My mom tried making bows for her, too, but Millie is a grouch and refused to wear them. That’s fine with me, though, because it means I get all the new styles for myself.

The best part about having my mom work at home is that I get to hang out with her all day while she makes pet accessories for her business, Best Friend Supplies Co. She works really hard to make bandanas and bows for other animals and she tells me that I’m the reason she started making all this fun stuff. I’m even in the logo!

Probably the coolest thing I inspired her to make was this nifty little leash sleeve. It was a little red sign that said “Nervous, Do Not Pet” on the sides of it and she would Velcro it onto my leash when we went for walks. That was really helpful for me because sometimes I can be scared and nervous, especially when I meet new people. Having the little sign on my leash let everyone know to give me some extra space, and my mom says it made her more confident.

My mom says I’m doing a lot better about being out in public — she even started taking me to markets so I can meet new people and work on being brave! I get to meet all kinds of friendly people and they tell us about their pups that get a little nervous just like me. It’s nice to know that there are other dogs out there that find the world as scary as I do, and I love that my mom is helping those dogs just like she helped me.

Since I’ve been doing so much better now, my mom made me a new leash sleeve that says: “In Training, Ask To Help.” Now whenever I meet a new person my mom will give them a treat for me, and I let them pet me. My mom says that even though I can be reactive sometimes, I’m still a good girl and I know she’s proud of me.

I have even learned to not be afraid of all dogs — and my mom has helped me make some friends. There are other dogs on my street that I wasn’t sure about, but my mom showed me that it can be fun to play with others. My friend Duke is a German shepherd mix and he was also rescued by his mom from Shultz’s Guest House. He’s from Tennessee just like me. Duke likes everyone and everything. Duke likes long walks and chasing bunnies, but he is afraid of the pool and most water. But that’s okay, the pool is my favorite and I like to go to his house and swim in it. Maybe one day Duke will join me.

My other friend Sidney is a boxer and she is all the way from Puerto Rico. Her favorite thing is playing fetch, like a lot. Sometimes I need to lay down when I watch her just run back and forth over and over. It’s exhausting. Sidney is nervous about things just like me. We like to go on walks together with our moms to try and work on our bravery; it’s very scary but it is nice to have a friend with me.

When my mom’s not sewing in the studio, sometimes we get to lounge on the patio and lay in the sun. Well, I do most of the sunbathing while my mom drinks her coffee and makes funny videos of me to put online. You should check them out (@BestFriendSuppliesCo). They’re pretty hilarious, especially the ones where I’m rolling around on my back or digging holes on the beach.

We also hang out in the backyard and do photoshoots whenever my mom makes new accessories for me to wear. We’ve got a whole routine where I look to the left, then look to the right, then look at the camera, and then she tosses me a treat. Sometimes I have to do silly tricks like spinning around or waving with my paws. I don’t mind though, because I know I look great. We even have my friends come over to take pictures with me sometimes. I like when they come over for pictures — Mom always brings out the best snacks.

Anyways, I think it’s time for dinner so I should probably get going. Usually I can trick Mom or Dad into giving me a few bites of whatever they’re eating — I’ve got some great puppy eyes.

Thanks for stopping by and, like my mom always says: Stay Pawsitive!
