
In the fall of 2020, in the midst of a worldwide pandemic, the air around my Northern California home was thick with wildfire smoke. My studio—a drafty outbuilding just steps from my house—had become off limits. I was stuck indoors, restless, looking for something to do with my hands. On one of my daily walks, I had picked up a funny little branch that caught my eye. It was forked, shaped a little like a slingshot, and something about it made me think: what would happen if I turned this into a loom?
