A few months back, there was an Instagram trend circulating about what your 12-year-old self would think of where you are today. It was silly, but like most Instagram trends, it is rooted in some kind of truth that pulls us in and causes the questions to linger. As I considered this question, I reflected on my 12-year-old self and realized I wasn’t totally sure who she was. I don’t have a great memory; much of my past feels fuzzy to me, but as I leaned harder into this exercise, my 12-year-old self came into focus, and I began to recapture pieces of myself when everything was new and filled me with awe.
