
The first time I watched an artisan at work, I remember standing still, mesmerized. I had taken a year’s sabbatical from my corporate job, and somewhere in the hinterlands of India, I found myself in a dimly lit workshop of a Mashru artisan where hands moved with quiet confidence over the loom. He was creating something extraordinary with something as ordinary as thread. I didn’t know it then, but that moment would change the course of my life.
