I grew up in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. My parents were the most loving and caring parents a girl could ask for. God bless them; I am not sure how they ended up with a wild child like me.

My first creative memories go back to high school. My sister and I spent hours in Goodwill, searching the racks for unique clothing pieces. We would buy random items, and I would take them home and try to repurpose them any way I could. I wish I still had some of these pieces. It really pushed me to create my own individual style and develop my love for creating. I have definitely taught myself a few techniques through the years.

Today I practice those techniques and styles from my studio, which I designed with a retro, neon dive-bar in mind. I wanted it to have a feeling of being years in the making, eclectic. I didn’t want what anyone else had. If someone walked in my studio, I wanted them to get an instant feel for LA Dreams: a real representation of me. The most special item in my studio has to be my Fleetwood Mac original newspaper advertisement for their concert from back in 1971. It makes me feel like I was there.

When planning a studio, I recommend artists take time to think about what inspires them. What era? What location on the map are they the happiest? I suggest pulling from experiences and nature. There are no wrong answers. It has to be a space that makes its user happy. In that sense, it can be a masterpiece.

My passion for creating is like a fire in my soul—I am addicted to it! The feeling that I have when a new idea comes to life is hard to describe, but it’s an excitement and desire to share it with the world and a hope they love it as much as I do. That’s what keeps the passion alive for me. I never want the day to come where I don’t have that fire and zeal for what I do. What an amazing journey it has been so far.

With each piece I make, I say, ‘OK, world, here is a piece of me; I hope you love it like I do.’

Style is something that comes from whatever gives me that “feeling.” I don’t like being like anyone else. I don’t want to be a copycat, because to me, that is boring. I want to catch someone’s eye and make them rethink what is awesome. My inspiration comes from all over. Of course, I am inspired by certain designers (Betsey Johnson, Anna Sui) and from my experiences and travels. There is no better way to be inspired than by seeing the world and creating new adventures.

I do feel like I look at the world through rose-colored glasses. I try to be positive, and part of that is sharing my creations to make people smile and bring happiness into the world. The world can be such a dark place. If I can make just a few people feel inspired or loved, then I have done exactly what I wanted to do.

The biggest challenge for me is trying to not let fear get in the way of creating. It is easy to doubt yourself when you’re making something new, but I simply press on. The biggest accomplishment for me is the daily realization that I get to wake up and chase my dreams. I am really thankful for that.

“The most alluring thing a woman can have is confidence.”

— Beyonce

This business has given me the opportunity to meet so many amazing people. We help inspire each other and keep one another motivated. Pursuing my passions has blessed my life with some of my best friends.

The key for me to not burn out creatively is ensuring to take time for myself — whether that means hitting the open road in my vintage camper or just being still. It is important for me to remember that this life is short and constantly evolving, so I just want to make sure to enjoy every moment that I get on this planet.
