Steve Pitkin

on social media

In 1999, Steve Pitkin documented over 250 quilts, which were unknown to the public at that time. Those photographs resulted in an exhibit of 65 quilts at the Museum of Fine Arts, in Houston, and from there travelled across the country and all over the world.

In 2019, Pitkin was sponsored by the Souls Grown Deep Foundation to document the ongoing work of Gee’s Bend artists. Since then, they have documented over 3,000 works as well as the artists, the environment, and their work in process. He continues to work closely with the quilters of Gee’s Bend and other Black artists from the Deep South through a myriad of publications, film, and digital media.
