Michael Poehlman is a photographer living in Northern Michigan, specializing in portraits and editorial work. Michael began his career in New York City working as an intern for (and later hired by) Aperture, where he worked with some of the photography greats, and then later at Artists Space, and, ultimately, Getty Images as an editor and art director before leaping into life as a full-time assignment photographer. He continued for a number of years in New York before spending three years in São Paulo, Brazil.
He came back to his roots in Traverse City, Michigan, around 2011 to start a family and open a portrait studio. Michael’s work extends far beyond portraits, and he can be seen doing commercial lifestyle photography for banks and businesses or doing fine art commissions using water and lake concepts or traveling far away to do street or architecture photography and even occasional weddings.
