Julie Derbyshire is a photographic artist living and working in London, U.K. Like Rachna Garodia, Julie is based at Kindred Studios, and she enjoyed collaborating with Rachna and shooting these images of her studio for her.
As a full-time professional artist, Julie has a practice that is research-based and process-led. She tells visual stories through her fine art photographic work, and her underlying concerns surround notions of fragility and transience and the universal themes of our human condition. She incorporates processes of fabrication, manipulation and disruption into her work, including of the final photographic prints themselves. Julie’s work is influenced by art history and, reflecting her own lived experience, she seeks to introduce opposition, notably a tension between beauty and disquiet, inviting the viewer to reflect and to question what lies beyond the image.
Julie holds an MA Photography from the London College of Communication (University of the Arts London). She exhibits regularly and her work is held in private collections. She is the recipient of a number of awards.
