Urth Yarns / Emre Koc

I am Emre Koc, co-founder and president of Urth Yarns. I am a third-generation yarn brand owner and, with the interest my 8-year-old daughter is showing in knitting, I think she will take over from me as the fourth generation.

I started Urth Yarns with my younger brothers Emir and Efe in 2017. I am responsible for sales and product, while Emir takes care of our production to make sure there are always plenty of Urth Yarns ready to be shipped. We take pride in our fast shipping, which is very rare in the hand-dyeing industry. Efe’s expertise in photography and great taste in fashion make him the ideal brother to take over the marketing and design team.

When we founded our brand, we wanted to associate it with nature, so we used plant-based dyeing in addition to regular dyes. We wanted to give back to nature, so we started working with Trees for the Future, an organization that has been planting trees in Africa fordecades. We are proud to announce we have planted over 400,000 trees with our customers’ support.

At Urth Yarns, we wanted to create a brand that offered the softest yarns, beautiful colors and dyeing techniques and value. I think we have accomplished that, and we continue to hold ourselves to the same high standards as we add new products to our collection.
