We’re Ruby Star Society, a group of five designers — Melody Miller, Alexia Marcelle Abegg, Sarah Watts, Kimberly Kight and Rashida Coleman-Hale — and we’ve been designing fabric together since 2013. We love collaboration and connection, and we get to experience that not only with each other but with the people who sew with our fabrics.

We are all artists and we each bring a little something different to the table, including vintage repro, hand-carved and stamped artwork, hand-painted watercolor illustration, nostalgic vintage-inspired design and polished digital graphics. Our styles are all different but complement each other well. Our fabrics are designed to be mixed and matched across collections.

Ruby Star Society is a brand in collaboration with Moda Fabrics, and we modern fabric for home sewists. Our studio is in Atlanta, Georgia, but our group is spread out across the U.S.

Our fabrics are predominantly used for quilting; however, our cottons are slightly lighter weight than many quilting cottons and have a soft hand that is also wonderful for garments. It’s so amazing to see people take our designs and put their own creativity and passion into the projects they make with them. It gives our art a whole second life; it’s like it isn’t done when it leaves our hands — it’s waiting for another collaboration.

Knowing that our creativity has inspired someone else to use their own creativity is so fulfilling.
