Little House Cottons founder Kristen Balouch comes from a long line of women who sew. Her grandma made family clothes on a busy foot-pedal sewing machine and introduced Kristen to a needle and thread when she was around 7 years old. Kristen’s great-grandma sewed the Goodyear Blimp in Akron, Ohio, and her great-great-grandma sewed vaudeville costumes.

Kristen moved to Brooklyn, New York, at age 17, attended Pratt Institute and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Her work has spanned over 30 years, inspired by color play and the universal themes in folk art. She has authored/illustrated a dozen award-winning children’s books. Some of the Little House Cottons collections and project panels coordinate with these books. All of Kristen’s designs reflect playful, whimsical narratives. And Kristen’s upcoming collections are designed to help the maker tell their story.

“With a dedication to the environment and our global community, all of our cottons are GOTS certified organic cotton and we do our best to use sustainable practices in our everyday living,” shares Kristen.
