Kelbourne Woolens / Courtney Kelley and Kate Gagnon Osborn
Kelbourne Woolens is for those who love the craft as much as we do.
While working in a local yarn shop in Philadelphia, we founded Kelbourne Woolens in the summer of 2008 — somewhat by accident. Both recent art school grads (and Kate right in the middle of her grad program), founding a yarn company wasn’t necessarily our life path, but it ended up being the path we’ve been on for 15 years and counting!
With Courtney’s background in painting and Kate’s in weaving, we have created lives filled with color and texture. From day one, we have surrounded ourselves with a stellar community of craftspeople and makers from across the globe and in our Philadelphia warehouse. We both love yarn and natural fibers and have a keen eye for classic style. Courtney’s quirky, dreamer approach is well balanced by Kate’s precision and eye for detail, and vice versa. We couldn’t have found a better partnership than in one another.
We poured our artistic, technical and extensive experience working in a local yarn shop into our own line of yarns under the Kelbourne Woolens brand. Our primary focus is to create quality yarns that are functional, long-lasting and accessible. The yarns we design are meant to be worked with, worn, loved, and enjoyed by all, with as few barriers — financial or otherwise — as possible.

KELBOURNE WOOLENS X FAIRMOUNT FIBERS
Kelbourne Woolens yarns are designed to fill a gap — not only within the line itself, but in the industry overall. Working directly with mills throughout the world, we are able to work closely with manufacturers who share the same core beliefs of high-quality production paired with environmental and social practices that respect and value the planet. Over the years we have stayed closely connected with all aspects of running the business. From invoicing, customer service, pattern writing, sample knitting and social media to graphic design, color development and website management, we still do it all!
This year, to celebrate our 15-year anniversary, we have come full circle and created a yarn shop in our Mt. Airy warehouse that is open to the public. We met in a yarn shop and now we have one to call our own — along with a warehouse filled to the brim with the most delightful, colorful fibers
