My name is Molly, Roxanne’s studio and garden assistant. I go with her everywhere, I have to make sure she is safe.
My favorite thing in the world is to cuddle with her! She calls me Molly Sunshine and when she sings to me, I lick her chin and gaze in her eyes. She sings, “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine… you make me happy when skies are gray…” I love this!!! And then she says: “Oh Molly!” and I know I have done something extra cute.
I am a 3-year-old chocolate Lab. My other human, Jim, says I am still a puppy, and that labs stay puppies for years. I love him, too — taking rides to town is the best. If I put my face out of his truck window and smile people give me a treat!
We live in a small country town in the Pacific Northwest. I love the trees, the grass and all the flowers.
In Roxanne’s studio I like to clean the floor. Sometimes I find a lovely little scrap of paper or fabric and then Roxanne will chase me around the house until I finally drop it and she tells me how good I am and puts it back on her worktable. I love my life!
Outside in the garden, I like to help Roxanne work by pulling up flowers and plants and digging holes for her near where she is working. This loosens the soil, so it is easier for her to plant in.
I used to tear branches off her bushes and run around the yard with them in my mouth, but that isn’t as fun anymore.
When Jim and Roxanne sit outside in the evening, I like to play fetch. But I don’t really like to let go of the ball after I fetch it. I want to hold on to it forever!! Outside I love doing zoomies, sometimes when I am in the house too. I just want to run faster and faster and it takes a long time to stop!
When I was a little puppy, I used to be much wilder. Then my humans got themselves a trainer who told us that in my litter, I was probably the dominant pack puppy. I think that was true — all I wanted was for my humans to behave! Over time, my humans worked really hard to calm me down and I could tell this was very important to them. And now I am so sweet!!
Roxanne loves to make art and take photographs of her worktable. She loves taking photographs of me, too, especially when I am lying on the floor of our studio or outside in the garden nestled by her feet.
In her art, Roxanne loves putting papers, paint and fabric together to make beautiful collages and artist books. She listens to a local college NPR radio station and loves the music that is from different cultures, and folk and rock music. Sometimes we dance together. Roxanne has drums and rattles from around the world.
Evening time is the most beautiful time in our studio. The sun is low, and makes the prettiest light come through the big window. Everything seems to sparkle! This is the time we will most certainly be in the studio, Roxanne standing by her worktable and me watching over her.
