From an early age, I was encouraged to see the world through the lens of art—always noticing color, texture, detail, and the beauty in everyday surroundings. My mom, an art teacher, filled our home with creativity: paintbrushes, jars of colored pencils, sketchpads stacked on tables, and an endless sense of possibility. She encouraged me to experiment freely, to see mistakes as part of the process, and to recognize how color could instantly shift the feeling of something. My father, a classical musician in the Washington National Opera Orchestra and later a bakery owner, filled the house with music and delicious food. Looking back, I realize how rare it was to grow up in a home where creativity wasn’t just a subject, but a way of life.
