Description
I just moved into a small apartment and I desperately wanted a new studio. I converted this sunroom into a multi-functional mixed media art studio that included my love of nature, gardening, reading, and creating art...mixed media including sculpture and painting. My art is focused on roots and wings and everything in-between. The sunroom is nestled in front of the woods packed with trees, rabbits, birds, and other critters. There is even a train that comes nearby daily! So it is easy to get inspired, all I have to do is look outside! I also like to surround myself with unusual and beautiful things, including Victorian angels, art magazines/books, unusual house plants (I'm growing a fig tree and a Meyers Lemon tree indoors!). I like keeping my work near me so I can gauge my progress easily, critique them as they go on "vacation" on the walls until they are completed, and keep my work within reach, instead of stored in a closet. I have a "Birthing Center" for my sculptures in window sills and walls, and for future work or current work that will be painted soon. I like to keep things fun and quirky to keep me motivated, as I struggle with disability and pain on a daily basis. So I have a few dragon friends to keep me company too. They can be very naughty sometimes! LOL. I am also writing a children's book with rabbits as characters, and my illustrations blend well with my art work. So while I might do the bills, network with other artists, watch art classes online sitting at my desk, I often will come up with an idea for the book, or for an art piece....so I am right there in my studio ready to work! Since mobility is an issue, the "Silver Rabbit Studio" is central to all the other rooms in the apartment, including access to my dog, Peanut. I have proven you can have a studio in the smallest of spaces that does double duty for other things at the same time!
