Chiyoko Myose

Chiyoko Myose is an award- winning artist, originally from Japan, who lives and works in Wichita, Kansas. Her artistic practice primarily focuses on painting and installation art, with an emphasis on creating exhibitions. The recurring element of “thread” in her work serves as a metaphor symbolizing connection and relationships, guiding her to various locations both nationally and internationally in the past several years. Most recently, she visited Peru and held two solo exhibitions.

Creating artwork and expressing my thoughts are a great joy for me. However, when I received my BFA in painting in 2011, I had doubts about continuing my art practice, imagining that the life of an artist would be very difficult.” It feels like a miracle that I’ve been able to keep creating works and exhibiting them still today. I believe this was thanks to my encounter with the material of thread. Just like thread is continuous and resilient, it gave me the strength to keep creating art.
