Clementine and Sabrina Ward Harrison

Published:

Life with Sabrina Ward Harrison in the countryside of Wisconsin is like living in a world where every moment matters. My name is Clementine, and I’m a Cavapoo, and the fortunate furball who gets to be by Sabrina’s side every day. This is my story, my journey, my dreams and my fears, all intertwined with the incredible woman who makes every day an adventure.

I was born in Illinois, and on January 8, 2024, Sabrina brought me to my new home when I was only 3 pounds, just a tiny bundle of fur. But Sabrina’s gentle hands and kind eyes made me feel safe immediately. She named me Clementine because if she had a daughter, that would have been her name. From that moment, I knew I was special to her.

This past spring and summer were my first, and the transformation from the cold of winter to the blossoming warmth of these seasons was magical. Sabrina and I explored the vibrant fields and woods around our home, every walk a new discovery. The smells of fresh grass, blooming flowers — and the occasional rabbit or squirrel — keep my senses tingling. I love trotting alongside Sabrina, who always has a kind word and a gentle pat for me.

Sabrina has a passion for color and texture. Even though she can’t always engage in her art like she used to due to her chronic illness, she fills our home with inspiring environments. Every room is a testament to her creativity, with rich colors, varied textures and thoughtful details that make our house a vibrant and welcoming place. Just like my red hair, which is kind of messy like hers, our home is filled with a warm and whimsical charm that reflects her vibrant spirit.

Our days are a blend of serene moments and little adventures. Sabrina’s chronic illness means she can’t always create art, but she finds beauty and meaning in the quieter aspects of life and she teaches me to do the same. We have a routine, and in it I find comfort and purpose.

Mornings begin with Sabrina’s soft voice waking me. We share a quiet moment, just the two of us, basking in the gentle start of a new day. Breakfast follows, and then we step out into the world.

Sabrina takes me on walks where we explore the countryside and I get to lead the way, my nose guiding us to new and exciting places. These walks are more than just exercise; they’re a time for us to connect, to breathe in the fresh air and appreciate the beauty of nature.

At home, I have my responsibilities. I stay close to Sabrina, providing her with the comfort and companionship she needs. I can sense when she’s having a tough day; and on those days, I make sure to be extra attentive. I nuzzle her, lay my head on her lap and offer my unwavering support. My presence helps her stay grounded, and in turn, her strength and resilience inspire me.

I also have a dad named Sean. He’s Sabrina’s husband and he loves to play wild with me. His energy is infectious, and our playful sessions are a highlight of my day. We romp around and he throws toys for me to chase, making me feel like a puppy all over again.

One of my favorite places is the window seat where we often sit together. From there, we watch the world go by. Birds flit from tree to tree, the leaves rustle in the breeze, and the sun casts a golden glow over the fields. It’s a simple joy, but one that brings us both immense peace.

I’m a very silly pup, often making Sabrina laugh with my antics. One of my silliest habits is sitting as if I’m in a chair. I prop myself up with my bottom on a big pillow and my legs down, just like a person. It’s quite the sight! Another part of our routine is my daily brushing. Being half Cavalier King Charles and half small poodle, my fur needs constant care. Sabrina brushes me every day, a ritual that’s become a bonding time for us.

I have a few favorite things that make my days even better. Carrots and green beans are my absolute favorite treats. I get so excited whenever Sabrina gives me one. But my ultimate delight is finding asparagus in the garden. The thrill of discovering those green stalks peeking out from the soil is unmatched!

And then there are the gopher holes. Oh, how I love sniffing them out! I put my nose down in the hole and sniff REALLY hard, my tail wagging furiously. Once, I even caught and ate (!!) a mouse! That was a proud moment for me, though Sabrina found it more amusing than anything.

Dreams? Oh, I have a few. I dream of more sunny days spent exploring with Sabrina, of new scents to discover, and of the simple pleasure of being by her side. I hope to always be her loyal companion, to provide her with the love and comfort she needs and to share in the quiet beauty of our life together.

I’ve learned so much in my short time with Sabrina. I’ve learned that life is about the moments we share, the love we give, and the joy we find in the everyday. I’ve learned that even on the toughest days, there’s always something to be grateful for. And most importantly, I’ve learned that home isn’t just a place — it’s where you feel loved and cherished.

So, as I sit here under the kitchen table, sharing my story, I hope you feel like you’ve made a new friend. My journey with Sabrina is one of love, resilience and the simple joy of being present in the moment.

Here’s to more adventures, more quiet moments and the unwavering bond between a dog and her human.
